We bought a rubbish Hoover washing machine about 3 years ago, two days before the warranty expired it died. It had a badly furred up heater element and the engineer blamed our water, although I'd never had this problem with previous machines. We now use a cheap washing machine cleaner about 3 times a year which works so far.

I bought the HG Service Engineer product from Lakeland recently but when I asked about suitability for use with a septic tank they said that they had not been specifically informed that it was or was not suitable for use with a septic tank.

Do you use Calgon in your washing machine or does it not seem very money saving to you? And maybe someone has a plumber for a husband who can verify that Calgon really does prolong the life of a WM.
